Transitioning from Summer to Fall!

Hey! Welcome to my first blog post!  Whoop Whoop!

If you are someone who doesn’t know me personally, feel free to read my About post to get a glance of who I am 🙂

So, I guess it’s safe to say that Fall is finally upon us!  I don’t know about you, but here in Quebec we just finished with a killer week of Summer (like 30-40 degrees C!) and then fell into a pretty big drop in temperature with overcast, so it was literally like someone flipped the switch from Summer to Fall!  In one way I’m sad to see Summer go (because I love the heat, the sun, the vaca mode) but I’m also happy that it is Fall because Fall is my favourite season for fashion!

I wish I could say that I am the type of person who organizes their closet every season, and packs away all of their Summer clothes as soon as the leaves fall from the trees, but I’m just not that organized…anymore that is…since having kids.  It just doesn’t seem to make it’s way up to the top of the To Do List these days!  But for sure there is definitely a shift in what comes out of the closet on a daily basis!

Here are some ideas for Transitioning your wardrobe from Summer to Fall!

  • Change your colour palette:

Gone should be the days of pastels and lemon yellows, that are light and airy!  Go for the pieces that are robust, warm and earthy in colour like the foliage from the trees!  Don’t get me wrong, go for the yellow, but let it be that burnt earth toned yellow that reminds you of Thanksgiving!  Army greens, plum purples, pumpkin oranges are all great too!   And don’t shy away from pink in the Fall, just make sure it’s a warm pink (burnt blush colour) and not the cooler toned light pink!  It’s time to replace some of your basic white pieces, like tank tops and tee’s, with some of your basic blacks!

This new blush knit sweater is one of my favourite colours for Fall this year, and this gorgous lace top and burnt yellow blouse have me feeling like Autumn is in the air!

  • Add a Cardigan to your favourite Tank Tops and Tee’s:

We don’t need to put our favourite tank top and tee’s away quiet yet, all we need to do is add one of our favourite cardigans!  Cardigans are a great go-to for this time of year when you are just not sure what the weather will bring from day to day, or even from morning til end of day!  I don’t know how many times I’ve left my house dressed for chilly weather, to then be dying of heat by the end of the day!  Throw your cardigan on in the morning and then if the sun peaks out later in the day, you can simply remove it!  And isn’t the cardigan a mom’s best friend?! Totally hides all of those last couple of pounds we are all trying to loose 😉

Here’s one of my new favourites I just picked up!

  • Trade in your Open-toed Pumps for some Open-toed Booties:

Unless you are going out for a pedicure, it really is time to pack away the sandals!  And ofcourse, there is still a time and a place for some great open-toed pumps, but generally speaking, it’s time to break out your booties! (And I don’t mean your backend 😉 )  I love to get as much wear out of my open-toed booties and/or booties that are perforated, as I can during this transition into Fall because once the snow falls we are close-toed everything for 6 months!

These ones are super comfy and because they are neutral, go with just about anything!

  • Put a Scarf on it:

Who doesn’t love a great scarf?!  It just screams Fall, right?!  When in doubt and when it’s not too chilly, throw on a scarf!  Blanket scarves are incredibly cozy and soft and do a great job at keeping you warm.  Plus, it’s just a really great accessory option for the Fall when other accessories might be hidden under layers!

My current favourite scarf is actually a double sided infinity scarf!  I love the palette and the animal print which is so big this season!

  • Don’t put your whites away just yet:

Ofcourse the old rule of thumb was always “no white after Labour Day”, but those days are gone!  Instead of pairing your favourite white denim with a flowy summer top, opt for the chunky knit sweater in your favourite neutral or Fall colour!  Ivory is also a great option for Fall as it really compliments all of those warm earthy Fall colours!  Remember to finish the look with your accessories like a great scarf, statement earrings and a killer handbag!

This Ivory sweater will definitely be one of my go-to sweaters for the season and white denim is such a classic!
